Built a few minutes from your yard.
Bolton is where the beds are cut and assembled, so this is the one place you can collect a carton from the shop instead of waiting for the courier. Caledon's later spring makes Deep beds the safer choice for tomatoes and peppers, and the rural lots in Palgrave, Caledon East and Inglewood have the room for a row of them.
The 1991-2020 hardiness map puts Bolton and Caledon in zone 6a and Caledon Village, up on the hills, in 5b. There is no Caledon station with published frost normals; the King Smoke Tree station just east, in the 1981-2010 normals, averages a last frost of 6 May and a first of 9 October, 155 frost-free days, and Buttonville 3 May and 13 October. Bolton sits at about the King figures; Belfountain, Alton and the Forks of the Credit lose another week at each end, so the tomato date here is the last week of May and the frost watch starts in late September.
Wells and watering restrictions are a Caledon fact; deep soil holds water longer than shallow, and mulch on top halves the watering. Deer are the other fact, and an elevated bed does not stop them; a Narrow bed against the house wall, under the eaves and near the door, is the one they leave alone.
