Cedar raised garden beds in Mississauga, built in Bolton.
Cedar raised beds for established lots under mature trees, where the sun moves and the bed can move with it.

What a Mississauga yard asks of a raised bed.
Older Mississauga streets in Port Credit, Streetsville and Lorne Park grew their trees up over the gardens. The sunny patch at the back of the lot in May is in shade by July. An elevated bed on legs is the answer to a moving sun: empty it, lift it with two people and set it down where the light is now, on lawn, pavers or a deck.
Pearson airport is the city's own climate station, and its 1991-2020 normals put the last frost around 27 April and the first around 20 October, 174 frost-free days. South of the QEW the lake adds a week or more at each end, which is why Port Credit and Clarkson gardens carry peppers into late October while Meadowvale is covering them. The whole city sits in zone 7a on the 1991-2020 hardiness map, a full zone warmer than the 1961-1990 map had it.
Newer subdivisions in Erin Mills and Meadowvale have the opposite problem, full sun on graded fill. A Wide 60 Deep bed or two Wide 36 Deep beds side by side gives a real vegetable plot without digging into the builder's clay, and the beds can go on the patio rather than the lawn, so the mower keeps its run.
