Rounded to the dollar, from the cost model every planter price comes from. This size is priced to match what the best-known Canadian cedar planter brand charged for the same size and grade on 21 September 2026, which is below the margin our own number would carry. The launch price of $225.99 is the same cost at the margin the line needs once the Founding Batch is gone. Sales tax is added at checkout at the rate for the province the order ships to.

Deep is 12 inches of soil for tomatoes, peppers, carrots, beets and most herbs. Standard is 8 inches for lettuce, spinach, radishes, strawberries and annual flowers, with fewer bags to fill and less weight on a balcony. Both stand 30 inches tall.

Clear boards are selected for clear, even grain with no knots. Knotty boards are the same boards with sound, tight knots and the small checks cedar grows with. Same thickness, structure, legs, liner and hardware; Clear costs more because clear boards cost us more.

Wide is 18 inches, two rows of greens or one row of tomatoes with herbs in front, the usual patio or yard bed. Narrow is 11.5 inches, one row along a wall, a fence or a balcony rail, and it leaves the walkway.

What you are buying, and what grows in it.

A 2 ft elevated bed, 11.5 inches wide with 8 inches of soil: about 1.6 square feet of growing space and roughly 29 litres of soil, standing 30 inches tall on four powder-coated steel legs. Eight inches suits lettuce, spinach, herbs, radishes and strawberries, in one row along a wall or a rail. Cut and assembled in Bolton, Ontario, from Western Red Cedar from British Columbia; knotty grade means the same boards with sound, tight knots and the small checks cedar grows with. It ships flat in one carton, about 33 lb, shipping across Canada included, and is designed to assemble in about 10 minutes with the wrench in the box.

The box is nominal 1x6 cedar (3/4 by 5-1/2 in actual), three courses high, 16.5 in walls, with the end boards captured between the long boards and each corner wrapped by an L-shaped steel bracket, bolted through the bracket's flanges, that runs to the ground as the leg. 4 cedar base planks sit on cleats with drainage gaps, and a fabric liner keeps the soil off the wood. Nothing is treated, stained or sealed; the cedar weathers to silver outside, or holds its colour under a penetrating oil.

  • What fits: 1.6 square feet of growing space, or about 6 lettuce, 14 bush beans if the whole bed went to one crop by the square-foot method.
  • Filled weight: about 111 to 137 lb with moist mix, so place it before you fill it. On a balcony, check the load rating with that number.
  • Footprint: the legs wrap the outside corners and take no room inside the box, so it can sit tight to a wall or a rail.

Questions about this size

Before you reserve.

How much soil does the 11.5 × 24 in raised bed take?

About 29 litres (1.04 cubic feet) to the 8 inch fill line, which is roughly 2 bags of 28 litres. Filled to 10 inches it takes about 29 litres. Soil calculator.

How heavy is a filled 11.5 × 24 in raised bed?

The empty raised bed is about 33 lb (an estimate from the drawings until the first units are weighed). Moist soil runs 75 to 100 lb per cubic foot, so filled it is roughly 111 to 137 lb. Place it before you fill it.

What is the growing space?

1.6 square feet inside the box (10 by 22.5 inches), 8 inches deep.

Can I carry a Narrow 24 Standard to a rooftop?

Empty, it is about 33 lb in a flat carton, so yes. The longest piece is a 24 inch board and the whole thing bolts together on the roof in about ten minutes. Filled it is roughly 111 to 137 lb, so carry the soil up in bags (about 2 of 28 litres) and fill it in place. Check the roof's rules on planters, and put a paver under each foot on a membrane roof so the plates do not mark it.

How many lettuce plants fit in a Narrow 24 Standard?

Four heads per square foot by the square-foot method, so about 6 in its 1.6 square feet, or the same number split between lettuce, spinach and arugula sown in succession. Eight inches of soil is the right depth for leaf crops; they root shallow and you fill fewer bags. Sow a quarter of the bed every two weeks from mid April and you cut salad from May to the first hard frost.
