Fence panel prices are hard to compare because nobody puts them side by side. Here they are. In August 2026 we checked what a national big-box chain and the BC-based online metal-fence sellers were charging for the panels closest to ours, and set those figures next to our published prices; on 28 September 2026 we checked again. The panel-by-panel table, all nine of ours against their closest match with the date on it, is now on the price list. This post is the category view. Every number is dated, none of it is a guess, and the big-box figures will move.
Pressure-treated fence panels
Our Pressure-Treated Privacy is $144.99 and the Pressure-Treated Lattice Top is $149.99, both 6 ft × 8 ft, pre-assembled in Bolton. The big-box chain lists its 6×8 pressure-treated shadow box lattice-top panel at $198.00; it was out of stock in August and back in stock at the stores near Bolton on 28 September 2026. Its solid privacy panel listed at $129 in August, a thinner panel at 2.25 in. that stands 72 in. tall, where ours stands a true 73.5 in. on a heavy frame; on 28 September 2026 it was not available in Ontario and showed no price at all. So the lattice top is roughly a quarter less here, and the privacy panel, when they have it, costs more here and is built heavier. The chain’s listings published no wood species, no board thickness, no rail count and no written warranty terms; every spec we build to is on the product page.
Metal (wood and steel) fence panels
Our Wood & Steel solid face and lattice top are $169.99 each. The comparable panels do not come from the big box; they come from BC-based online metal-fence sellers, who list a wood-framed corrugated panel at $299.99 with a pressure-treated frame and $324.99 with a cedar frame on 28 September 2026, made to order in four to six weeks. In August they quoted $299 to $399 freight into Ontario on top; on 28 September 2026 their delivery map covered BC and Alberta, with Ontario listed as planned, so no Ontario freight could be quoted at all. The big box now lists a 6×8 stained softwood panel with a black metal insert at $198, out of stock when we checked. Ten panels from BC land at roughly $3,300 or more, next month, if they will ship them. Ten of ours are about $1,700, on a pallet in Bolton this week, with free pickup or $200 for up to 40 panels delivery.
Cedar fence panels
Cedar was not in the August comparison, because the panels we could check at the big box then were pressure-treated and metal, and a cedar panel set against a treated one is a species comparison, not a store comparison. On 28 September 2026 we found their cedar: a premium 6×8 solid cedar panel at $228.00 and a cedar diagonal-lattice-top panel at $208.00, both on 11/16 in. boards and a stained whitewood frame, and both out of stock at the stores we checked. Ours: Solid Privacy $159.99 in tongue-and-groove on a cedar 2×4 frame, Heritage Diagonal Lattice $144.99 premium and $94.99 contractor grade, Heritage Square Lattice $144.99, which they do not stock at all, and Good Neighbour shadowbox $104.99, against their cheapest cedar panel, a flat privacy kit at $99.00. The like-for-like argument on spec is in pre-assembled panels: factory-direct versus big-box.
Fencing lumber
On loose pressure-treated lumber the market had converged when we checked on 12 August 2026: the big-box chain and two GTA lumber yards were all at $50.98 for a 6×6 10 ft post, $40.98 for the 8 ft, $3.98 for a 6 ft 1×6 fence board and $3.30 for the 5 ft. Ours: 6×6 10 ft $48.99 ($43.99 each at 25 or more, applied in the cart), 6×6 8 ft $37.99 ($33.99 each at 25 or more, applied in the cart), 1×6 6 ft $3.79, 1×6 5 ft $3.19. The chain’s own bulk price on the 10 ft post was about $45.88 at 32 or more; ours at 25 or more is $43.99. These are premium kiln-dried brown boards set against their premium board, not their cheapest green one.
Delivery and pickup
Pickup at the yard is free. Delivery within about 100 km of Bolton is $200 per 40 panels plus HST, one flat fee for a whole yard’s worth of panels. Big-box delivery on fence panels varies by store and by order, so we have not put a number on it; ask before you assume it is free.
How to read this
Prices are Canadian dollars before HST. Ours were checked against the catalogue on 2026-09-28 and are live on the price list; the big-box and online figures are what we saw in August 2026 and on 28 September 2026, and they will drift; we re-check every quarter. If you find one out of date, tell us and we will re-check. The point is not that we are cheaper on every line; on the treated privacy panel we are not. The point is that every number here is published, dated and checkable, which is more than a shelf tag gives you.
