The heavy 6×6 post, a true 5½ in. square, for the places a 4×4 racks: gate ends, where the whole weight of a gate hangs off one post, corner posts pulling in two directions, pergola uprights and structural spans. At 8 ft it sets 48 in. deep and stands 4 ft, the gate and corner post for a 4 ft fence; a 6 ft fence takes the 10 ft 6×6. Ground-contact treated for the footing.
