What you’re buying.
The 5 ft cut of our premium brown-treated 1×6 fence board, a true ¾ in. by 5½ in. by 60 in. It is the picket for a 5 ft fence, for a 4 ft fence cut to length, and for the solid section under a lattice crown: a 5 ft board with a 1×8 lattice strip above it is how a 6 ft lattice-top fence is built.
Kiln-dried for a lighter, straighter, more stable board that holds its shape instead of cupping and twisting the way a wet green picket does as it dries down. The brown colour is built into the treatment, so the run goes up finished and even with no staining step, and it is rated for above-ground use, which is what a picket is.
Count it the same as the 6 ft board: 16 to 17 per 8 ft section of solid fence with 3/16 in. gaps, about 12 a side for a shadowbox. The same premium board we build our own panels from, sold by the piece for pickup at our Bolton yard and priced below the big box’s premium board.
